Rhythm, Play, and Connection: A Family Adventure in Jump Rhythm®

This intergenerational workshop invites families to explore the joy of movement, rhythm, and creativity together. Using the foundational principles of Jump Rhythm® Technique, participants of all ages and generations will engage in playful, accessible exercises that emphasise collaboration, self-expression, and the communal spirit of jazz. The workshop will blend scat singing, body percussion, improvisation, and simple dance routines to create a fun, inclusive experience for everyone.

Course Description

What happens when families move, groove, and create together?


In this intergenerational workshop, families will explore the joy of movement, rhythm, and creativity using the foundational principles of Jump Rhythm® Technique


Participants of all ages and generations will engage in playful, accessible exercises designed to foster collaboration, self-expression, and a sense of community.

Throughout the session, families will dive into scat singing, body percussion, improvisation, and simple dance routines—all crafted to help everyone discover how rhythm connects us to ourselves and each other. 


The environment is inclusive and energetic, ensuring that everyone, regardless of experience, can participate, create, and have fun.


By the end, families will leave with shared memories, new ways to connect, and a fresh appreciation for the power of rhythm and movement.


Goals:

  • Foster connection and creativity across generations.

  • Introduce families to the joy of rhythm and movement in a low-pressure, playful environment.

  • Build confidence in self-expression through collaborative, non-judgmental activities.


Who’s it for:

  • Families with children ages 8+, grandparents, teenagers, and adults of all ages.

  • No prior dance experience required.

COURSE PRESENTER

Peter Hammer is a professional performer, choreographer, and teacher based in Toulouse, France. For over 10 years, he has devoted his professional dance career to learning, dancing, and teaching the Jump Rhythm® Technique an unique American art form that combines jazz and tap dance with “scat” singing and body percussion to create an energetic expression of whole-body emotion and rhythm. He began dancing when he was 14 and went on to receive a degree in Dance Performance and Choreography from Hope College, in Holland, Michigan. In 2007, Peter began working with Jump Rhythm Jazz Project, an Emmy award-winning Chicago dance company. As a company member, he performed, choreographed, and taught workshops and masterclasses in Finland, Spain, France, and throughout the US. At the end of 2017, Peter received a “Passeport Talent” visa to teach dance and perform in France. Now, his focus is directed to introducing the Jump Rhythm Technique in France, with classes, workshops, and performances in Toulouse and other cities through his association, Association Rythme Américain, and dance company, Sounds of the SOL."
